But we can also facilitate other methods of sale.

We manage all aspects of environmental compliance (National Environmental Standards for Plantation Forestry (NES-CF) and compliance to Health & Safety legislation. We have a good working relationship with both the regional and district councils, along with utilities providers, ensuring you are covered when harvesting commences. To get the best out of harvesting your trees and ultimately your financial return, we can help you with:

  • Knowing exactly what log grades your forest contains

  • Selecting a logging contractor that is honest, reputable and safe

  • Cutting logs for best value recovery

Forest Engineering

The largest components that undermine the return from your trees is the cost of harvesting, constructing roads and engineering. It is crucial to have quality planning and implementation to ensure that harvesting and roading are optimised and tailored to the topography. This can save you a lot of cost and hence results in a greater financial return.

Saathof Forestry has the capability and experience to plan your harvest, apply for required resource consents, provide technical expertise for culvert calculations, road survey and design.

Our harvest planning and engineering services include:

  • Strategic and operational harvest planning

  • Project assessment and feasibility studies

  • Bridge, culvert and ford design

  • Road and landing design (RoadEng)

  • Contract management, site supervision and quality assurance

  • Stream modeling (HEC-RAS) for slash set back

  • Stormwater management plans

Harvest Planning

The foundation of a successful harvest is a robust and well thought-out harvest plan. This enables safe and efficient use of harvest machinery, minimising environmental impact.

We provide contract planning services across New Zealand and underpinned by time on the ground and in office analysis produce high quality plans and maps to support harvest operations. Where required we also undertake cable analysis and road and skid design (RoadEng).

Carbon Forestry

Today trees are not only grown for wood products but also as a store of carbon which materialises into another income stream from your forest. Saathof Forestry Services can help you make the most of this opportunity under the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). A forest is a living, breathing carbon sink. The ETS recognises that forests sequester carbon and as a result forest owners are rewarded with carbon credits. These credits can be sold as they are generated or used to offset other activities so that your business can be carbon neutral.

Saathof Forestry can help you:

  • Classify your land under the ETS (Eligibility Assessment)

  • Register your post-1989 forest land

  • Map out your forest (GIS Shapefile creation)

  • File emission returns - voluntary and mandatory

  • Evaluate carbon planting opportunnities

Environmental Health & Safety

Land stewardship and keeping people safe is our equal number one priority. We need to operate in a manner that is sustainable to both our people and our land. At Saathof Forestry we look beyond today, and out to the future generations that will work the land we are currently managing.

We apply a comprehensive management effort to meet NES-PF requirements and adhere to Health & Safety legislation. We are committed to achieve the highest standards. To realise this, we have systems and procedures to:

  • Comply with all relevant legislation

  • Plan our operations to meet environmental and health & safety values

  • Ensure the effectiveness of Saathof Forestry’s performance by conducting regular audits on ourselves and our contractors.
